Chairman Nguyen Hoang Anh welcomes Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam

CMSC Chairman Nguyen Hoang Anh hosted a reception for Mr. Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen - Cuban Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam and Mrs. Irmina Perojo Bellido - Commercial Counsellor on February 15th.

At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh, Chairman of the Commission for Management of State Capital at Enterprises (CMSC), affirmed that the strong and deep-rooted friendship and loyalty between Vietnam and Cuba were founded by President Ho Chi Minh and Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro and have been nurtured by generations of leaders and people of the two countries over the past 60 years. Chairman Nguyen Hoang Anh demonstrated Vietnam’s respect and determination to continue strengthening and deepening the time-honoured comprehensive cooperation and mutual trust between the two countries, and strongly reaffirmed Vietnam's solidarity and consistent support for the just revolutionary cause of the Cuban people. Until now, the two sides have established many exchange and cooperation mechanisms, which are increasingly demonstrated in high-level visits and meetings of leaders of the two Parties and two states.

In his remarks, Chairman Nguyen Hoang Anh said that the CMSC was established pursuant to Government Decree 131/2018/ND-CP dated September 29, 2018 to manage the capital and assets of 19 Vietnam’s leading state-owned firms, joint stock and limited companies in the fields of energy, infrastructure technology, industry, agriculture, state capital investment. CMSC establishment is a major policy of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the State to separate functions of state management and representing state capital ownership at enterprises, and form an organization specifically designed for representing state capital ownership at enterprises.

According to Chairman Nguyen Hoang Anh, there are currently 8 over 19 CMSC’s enterprises cooperating and investing in Cuba, including Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), Vietnam Electricity (EVN), Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC), MobiFone Corporation, Vietnam Airlines Company Limited (Vietnam Airlines), Vietnam Northern Food Corporation (Vinafood 1), Vietnam National Tobacco Corporation (Vinataba). There are 4 over 19 CMSC’s enterprises seeking partnership in Cuba such as Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem), Vietnam Southern Food Corporation – Joint Stock Company (Vinafood 2), Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC) and Vietnam Forestry Corporation (Vinafor).

On this occasion, Chairman Nguyen Hoang Anh expressed his wish to establish a long-term regular relationship between the CMSC and the Embassy of Cuba in Vietnam to further strengthen the good relationship which could create favourable conditions for the CMSC’s enterprises to enter the Cuban market. The cooperation between the enterprises of the two countries, as a result, would be strengthened. In addition, the head of CMSC suggested that Ambassador Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen and the Embassy of Cuba in Vietnam become the focal point to introduce Cuban state agencies or propose policy improvement helping Cuban enterprises to access CMSC's enterprises.

Ambassador Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen thanked the leaders of the CMSC for their respectful welcome, emphasizing his high appreciation for Vietnam's support to Cuba over the years. Affirming the strong bond between Vietnam and Cuba, Ambassador Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen pledged that, in his working position, he will contribute to promoting the relations between two countries.

Ambassador Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen spoke highly of CMSC as a specialised state ownership representative agency at 19 state-owned enterprises, stating that due to the heavy impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in the last two years and other socio-economic conditions, the Cuban government is very interested and looks forward to the support and cooperation of the Vietnamese government, including the investment participation of Vietnamese state-owned enterprises.

Supporting the proposal of Chairman Nguyen Hoang Anh, Ambassador Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen informed that, at this time, Cuba is also looking for cooperation opportunities in key fields such as maritime, technology, telecommunications, digital transformation, pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology, anti-infectious disease products, anti-cancer products, medical equipment, cultivation and exchange of tobacco seeds and other necessary materials for processing tobacco production, fertilizer industry, forestry production and wood processing.
