SCIC and Keppel seek cooperation opportunities

CMSC On July 25, Chairman of the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises (CMSC) Nguyen Hoang Anh had a meeting with a senior delegation of the Keppel Group and representatives of the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC) on researching investment opportunities for the Binh Quoi-Thanh Da ecological urban area project.
Attending the meeting were representatives of the General Department, the Office, and the Technology and Infrastructure Department of the commission, in addition to representatives of SCIC leadership and branches.
The Keppel Group delegation was led by Loh Chin Hua, CEO of Keppel Group and Chairman of the Keppel Land Company.
Giving a briefing of Keppel Group, Loh Chin Hua said that starting as a wholly state-owned shipbuilder of Singapore, Keppel provides infrastructure solutions, turns wastes into energy, and treats seawater into tap water. Keppel Group has many projects turning wastes into energy in Singapore, Australia, China, Qatar and the UK. Keppel Group also operates in the field of information and communications, ensuring connectivity in infrastructure projects.

Keppel Land is a real estate company of the Keppel Group. With 20 years of experience in Vietnam, Keppel Land provides real estate solutions, including residential projects, urban complexes and commercial projects. Keppel Land is experienced in intergovernmental projects and building large cities in Singapore and China.
Presenting ideas when bidding for the Binh Quoi-Thanh Da ecological urban area project, Cindy Lim, Managing Director of the Keppel Group’s Keppel Urban Solutions said that apart from constructing urban areas, Keppel Group provides sustainable, smart solutions to operate this urban area.

According to Cindy Lim, technological solutions for green energy production serving the needs of the urban area’s residents, or solutions to infrastructure connectivity with surrounding areas are something that Keppel Group wishes to bring for the Binh Quoi-Thanh Da ecological urban area project. IoT (Internet of things) and AI (artificial intelligence) solutions will definitely improve the quality of people’s lives. Keppel Group attaches importance to site clearance compensation and learns about aspirations of the local authorities and people, Cindy Lim added.

Le Dinh Buu Tri, Director of the Southern Branch of SCIC said the Binh Quoi-Thanh Da ecological urban area project was approved by Ho Chi Minh City in 1992, however, the project hasn’t been implemented due to many reasons. The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has had policies to encourage investors to build and develop the project through joint ventures with foreign enterprises. SCIC and Keppel Land are discussing cooperation opportunities to together bid for and implement the project.

Welcoming the Keppel Group's desire for investment in Vietnam, Chairman of the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises Nguyen Hoang Anh highly rated the group's vision and experience in the region's major urban projects. He supports cooperation between SCIC and Keppel Land.
According to him, the Binh Quoi-Thanh Da ecological urban area project has been stuck for many years, and SCIC and Keppel Land need to coordinate, understand the related legal framework and local requirements and conditions. The chairman emphasized that Vietnam's laws always support prestigious foreign investors to participate in projects in Vietnam. He also suggested development directions for the Binh Quoi-Thanh Da ecological urban area project in compliance with sustainable development needs. This is a big project that needs consistent solutions.
