Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Canh receives leaders of Samsung Group

CMSC Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Canh, Vice Chairman of Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises (CMSC) had a meeting with the delegation of Samsung Group led by Mr. Kim Woo June, Executive Vice President, Head of Global Sales Networks (Samsung Electrics) on April 4th.
Also attending the meeting were Mr. Choi Joo Ho, General Director of Samsung Vietnam Complex and leaders of units under the CMSC.
Mr. Kim Woo June, Executive Vice President, Head of Global Sales Networks (Samsung Electrics) said, in 2008, Samsung Electronics Vietnam (SEV) factory was officially established in Bac Ninh province with a capital of about $9.3 billion and then SEV decided to choose Thai Nguyen province and Ho Chi Minh city for its second and third mobile device factory in 2013 and 2015 respectively. Mr. Kim Woo June informed that about 80% of Samsung Network products provided globally are manufactured in Vietnam.

According to Mr. Kim Woo June, SEV has also invested in building a network factory to manufacture 5G equipment in Bac Ninh province, supplying 80% of Samsung's network equipment globally. In addition, SEV not only put into operation the network equipment production line at the factory in Bac Ninh province, but also invested in research and development activities (R&D). This factory currently has 500 engineers, including many Vietnamese high-skill engineers, researching both network hardware and software.
Emphasizing the great potential of Vietnam's telecommunications market, Mr. Kim Woo June expressed his desire to expand cooperation opportunities with major state owned enterprises such as Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and MobiFone Corporation.
Welcoming Samsung's desire for cooperation, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Canh, Vice Chairman of CMSC congratulated Samsung Vietnam on its business results and highly appreciated the investment activities over the years, contributing to promoting the development of Vietnam and Korea relations, meeting the expectations of the two countries’ government. According to Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Canh, developing modern information and telecommunications infrastructure, creating a foundation for the development of digital society, a digital economy, and digital government services plays an important role in the orientation of solutions to implement the third strategic breakthrough to build the infrastructure system mentioned in Documents of the 13th Party Congress.

As a member of National Committee for Digital Transformation, Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Canh shared the views of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Vietnam aiming to promote the development of national digital infrastructure, focusing on building the national data center, urgently upgrading the national backbone to soon commercialize 5G in 2024, striving for 100% of villages and villages to be provided with fiber optic cable, effectively deploying and developing digital platforms and digital services, focusing on developing and promoting the development of artificial intelligence platforms, virtual assistant techonology, VNeID application which is an application developed by the National Population Data Centre - Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam based on the application of population data, identification and electronic authentication.
According to Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Canh, realizing the policy of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Government on national digital transformation, in recent years, the CMSC has made positive changes in information technology activities and digital transformation such as having solutions to examine, supervise and motivate enterprises to implement the tasks in the CMSC’s digital transformation plan. VNPT and MobiFone, in addition, have made many efforts and contributed positively to the national digital transformation.
Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Canh also discussed cooperation opportunities between Samsung and VNPT and MobiFone, when VNPT officially opened the 8th internet data centre (IDC) in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park in October 2023, and MobiFone kicked off the its Hi-Tech Centre project in Hanoi in April 2023. Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Canh also asked VNPT and MobiFone to continue working with Samsung to discuss and seek cooperation opportunities in digital infrastructure, digital platforms and information technology services.
