Vietnam Airlines to be host airline of the international conference on aircraft maintenance

02/10/2023

The International Aircraft Maintenance Cost Conference, organized by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), will take place from October 4th to October 6th, 2023, in Hanoi. The event will gather 150 distinguished guests, including experts and delegates from leading global aviation organizations and airlines such as Airbus, Delta Air Lines, Lufthansa Technik, easyJet…

The conference will address various aviation technical topics, including aircraft maintenance cost management, current aircraft maintenance trends, optimizing maintenance costs through technical monitoring, sustainable operations, digital transformation, and more. Additionally, international delegates will visit and assess the aircraft maintenance infrastructure of the Vietnam Airlines Engineering Company (VAECO), a subsidiary of Vietnam Airlines, located at Noi Bai International Airport.

Notably, in the wake of the pandemic and political conflicts, the global aviation industry has faced supply chain disruptions in recent years, including shortages of aviation supplies and aircraft parts. This conference offers a platform for global experts to review, evaluate, and propose both short-term and long-term solutions to address these challenges.

This year's conference holds special significance, as the field of aircraft maintenance and technical operations plays a crucial role in the recovery and development of the aviation industry post-pandemic.

Vietnam Airlines is honored to be the host airline of this conference. IATA's choice of Vietnam as the event location and Vietnam Airlines as the host carrier reaffirms the international community's trust in the Vietnamese aviation industry and Vietnam as a destination. This also underscores the country's potential and prospects for strong growth in the international market. The event is an opportunity for Vietnam to gradually realize its plan to become a hub for passenger and cargo transit, a center for aircraft maintenance, repair activities, both regionally and globally.

Mr. Le Hong Ha, President & CEO of Vietnam Airlines, stated, "The conference provides a platform for aviation leaders and experts to discuss initiatives and solutions for cost and aircraft maintenance issues. As an official member of IATA, we are proud to host this year's Maintenance Cost Conference, affirming the capacity and position of the National Flag Carrier and the Vietnamese aviation industry. This demonstrates our commitment to collaborating on global aviation challenges, promoting the recovery and development of the global aviation industry. Additionally, through this event, we believe that the beautiful, peaceful, and dynamic image of Vietnam and its people will come closer to international friends."

Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General said, “As airlines return to growth mode, continuing shortfalls in the aviation supply chain including parts shortages are imposing significant strains on the industry’s ability to meet surging passenger demand. The IATA Maintenance Cost Conference (MCC) is the industry forum for discussing the ongoing challenges facing the sector, as well as best practices and opportunities presented by digitalization and new technology. We are pleased to have the MCC in Vietnam, and we are thrilled to have Vietnam Airlines, which has a developing MRO presence, as our host carrier again, having done a superb job hosting our recent World Safety and Operations Conference.”

At the conference, Vietnam Airlines will engage in discussions with global organizations and airlines on aircraft maintenance cost topics, along with the latest trends and applications of new technologies in aviation technology. The airline is focused on areas that help minimize costs, improve operational efficiency, technical operations, such as digital transformation, aircraft component monitoring, aircraft health monitoring, data management, supply chain management, and sustainable development. Notably, IATA experts will collaborate directly with Vietnam Airlines to develop cost management capabilities based on internationally recognized standards, with a strong emphasis on principles such as cost driver management, cost classification, and cost-effectiveness measurement.

The conference also includes the participation of the Vietnam Airlines Engineering Company (VAECO), a subsidiary of Vietnam Airlines. Established in 2009, VAECO operates according to the standards and regulations of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and aviation authorities worldwide. VAECO currently provides maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for the entire fleet of Vietnam Airlines and over 80 other civil airlines worldwide.

Currently, Vietnam Airlines is the only Vietnamese airline with aircraft repair and maintenance facilities. The airline is implementing a strategy to expand its aircraft maintenance infrastructure to serve the regional and global markets, providing specialized aircraft repair and maintenance services at competitive costs for international customers.
